Ponzu by Tzusan

As he slips between cities, sounds and sub-genres, Tzusan is collating everything he takes in. Wings spread and teeth sharpened, ‘Ponzu’ follows on from a string of collaborative singles and projects with Shogun, Sonnyjim, Manga Saint Hilare and CLBRKS, to name a few.

Consolidating an evolution of Tzusan’s distinctive approach which draws as much from Hauntology and Hyperpop as it does from the homogenized landscape of contemporary UK rap music, ‘Ponzu’ is ready to pre-order now. It harnesses a sonic palette that dances between lo-fi nostalgia and digital maximalism, blending influences like Sega Bodega and Burial with Hip-hop and Grime. Beneath the 808 vibrations and naturally lifted sounds are softly spoken slices of surreal lyricism laden in street culture that house a reference for everyone, framed through Tzusan’s usual post-modernist tinted lens.

The title track draws its name from a tart Japanese condiment and utilises these natural sounds and flavours to drag listeners right to the streets they were taken from. Slightly sci-fi but locked into reality, it acts as a perfect precursor to a full-scale attack on the suffocating distraction economy and digital hyperrealism we find ourselves drowning in.

Across the 17 tracks, we have features from Cappo, Verbz, Billy Got Waves, Iona Lee, Lori Asha, Philomenah, and Ed Scissortongue on a liquid DnB-infused joint.

The vinyl is available to cop now via Bandcamp so fill your boots and scoff your mouths.
