Run from your own mind
"The hardest thing of all is to find a black cat in a dark room, especially if there is no cat." Confucius' quote perfectly describes Brooxciv new single 'Runnin'. Running from our own mind, in search of something that may not even exist. His rhythm and poetry balance elegantly between dreams and paranoia, as many of us probably do in these exceptional times.
Brooxciv: A lot is going on in my lyrics. I like to take different routes at times. I've always enjoyed using the idea of how certain words sound in the music. And sometimes, I might flip it into a movie scene, with me being the medium. I always look at scenarios and circumstances from different angles. I hope my lyrics trigger people's imagination and question their opinions.
Running's lyrics are pretty introspective, and the beat feels like a haze. Did the lockdown influence your work?
Brooxciv: Like everyone else, I went through tough times with the pandemic, but I also got more in tune with my craft. The good always comes with the bad and vice versa.
If every cloud has a silver lining, what would that be for DIY musicians?
Brooxciv: I definitely feel like more artists have been able to use these wild times to improve their skills. I've been reading blogs about underground artists, and they all pretty much said the same thing. I guess it is a good thing people are putting out better music, more so now than ever.
What are your programs for the near future?
Brooxciv: I have a mixtape series coming through all the way till the end of summer. I just finished recording two more EPs that I'll be releasing back to back after that.
