Sombras is one of the most disturbing releases I have heard this year
Brazilian artist G. Paim’s new double-sided EP ‘Sombras’ is darker than the depths of hell. It doesn’t belong within fire and brimstone though, rather amongst the murky, misty and dirty, forgotten corners of the underworld. The cover art for the release could almost be a hung, tortured and soulless body. With songs titled Névoa Escura, Hostil and the namesake track Sombras literally translating from G. Paim's native Portuguese as Dark Mist, Hostile and Shadows, respectively; It is not difficult to make such associations. The traditional gothic font utilised on the EP cover is the rotten cherry on satan’s cake making for what is all in all one of the most disturbing releases I have heard this year.
