London techno goes underground again
It’s no secret that rave culture has been under serious threat over the last few decades. Following its initial heyday in the late 80s and early 90s, clampdowns across the nation soon forced it into the underground. Nearly half of all British clubs have been shut down in the last decade, leading to the rise of sanitised ‘superclubs’ under the heavy gaze of tight security. The institutionalised attack on the scene has naturally spawned a series of reactionary underground clusters across the nation. London-based Caustic is one of them. Inspired by 90s warehouse parties and fuelled by the exciting threat of police, they bring together both veteran ravers and younger people searching for something more. This is techno going underground again, bringing together the old and new. https://youtu.be/UseWb86YT50 And the movement is gaining momentum. Following a series of wildly popular parties (with many of the locations confirmed by text at the last minute), Caustic returns this Sunday to the German Deli Warehouse in Tottenham with the support of local microbrewery Brewheadz. With parties such as Caustic, along with other growing movements across the nation, perhaps true British rave culture is on it’s way back.
