What’s burning? #6

A full UK affair after what was a pretty US dominated flame last time out; it's What's Burning #6 putting incinerators out of business.

Mancunian and repping their city proudly, Charlie Boy Manson glides across Rhys Thomas’ ode-heavy soundscape with brazen ease on his first drop of the year ‘Chaz & Dave’. Much like the late 70’s, early 80’s Pop/ Rock duo, this little burner will keep you tuned in and looking for more… which is what Loose Lips will bring this year.

This beat can be played on loop til my brain is broken; Jets has been quietly dropping some ridiculous projects the last couple of years, often with Illinformed lacing some absolutely beautiful loops for them. This is no different; proper UK hip hop, bang the whole album it’s so cold it'll feel like it's ‘Winter Forever’.

Having switched up his delivery on the last couple tracks, Callum is making some boppy sad-boy rap that I have a lot of time for in the shape of recent single ‘ok’. Entirely independently produced, mastered and released which is of course what we live for, an exploration of styles off the back of the big 2020 bonfire ‘Park Bench’.

Fellow Londoners Nix Northwest and Xadi join forces on ‘Leisure Sickness’ a softly-spoken EP which combines the pairs’ varied styles. ‘Guilty Pleasure’ is my pick as Nix’s flow comes through, guess I can let the auto-tune slide when the vibe is like this. Definitely got a bit more mass appeal this one.

A lovely link-up between spitter Renelle 893 and producer Vagrant Real Estate to round us off, with Verbz getting on the mic also; ‘I’m Nice’ is a funky, almost garage-spiced track from Renelles pledge ‘Summer Ends When I Sa’ that dropped, yeah weirdly, just after summer ‘ended’- well it doesn’t have to with this heater.
