What’s burning? #7
You need these burners in your life. Not just cause your circulation isn’t what it used to be, but also cause that biting wind is finding holes in your fabric. Don’t worry; I feel it too. It’s What’s Burning? 7 keeping you insulated on chairlifts.
There isn’t a Defenders Of Style project that doesn’t get spun on repeat. It’s coming up to ten years since the iconic ‘The Death of Meaning’ album and ‘B-Syde’ from their latest double-single ‘Chrome & Black’ brings more of that Defender’s groove that’s had necks snapping for an entire decade. Both tracks slap, but this one just has that sunny, warm feel.
Feeling the smooth with this edition, which is exactly what good fudge should be. Your Old Droog has some ‘Vanilla Fudge’ to share with his many disciples. There isn’t a style he can’t own; the soulful loops balanced with his buttery delivery make for a sumptuous dessert to warm your bellies and one that is very much handcrafted.
Cadence comes with experience and this next heater has both in droves. Farma G shares the track with fellow been-around-the-blockers’ Jehst and Jazz T on my top pick from his latest album ‘How To Kill A Butterfly’. A farmer rapping about goats, in one way or another, ‘Goat Shit’ will keep you warmer than goats skin… I’d imagine.
This next entry is purely there because this playlist is seriously lacking some Dead Players. As this has turned into a mellow burning session, ‘Dustbowl’ is what I’m going to throw into the mix from the always burning and simply ridiculous ‘Faster Than the Speed of Death’. Not sure it will ever lose it’s pull, get cosy as fuck in this dust tornado
Another who absolutely has to feature is Lee Scott. He takes it back to basics like cabin roofs with, well, ‘cabin roof’—apparently, the wordplay rubs off. This fits the feel of number seven’s smoothness and is taken from ‘la scala’, which came out last year. It’s like he’s explored every avenue imaginable but has a homestead on this sound, which he always comes back to tend to.
