What’s burning? #9

Jay Prince

The days are getting longer and tying together tighter and tighter, the time in-between mere blinks. Has it been an hour, a day, a week, who knows and they’re definitely not counting; What’s Burning is though and it’s reached the highest single digit it has at it’s disposal, 9.

Opening with a sunny-stunner ready for the summer… I’ll reign it in at some point. We’ve got an unlikely link up with the UK’s Jay Prince, everyone’s favourite American-boy lover Estelle and emcee stroke producer Oddisee on ‘Solitude’. Taken from the upcoming album ‘Shine’ which is expected around mid-May, this will get those UV levels rising.

Another from an anticipated album from a fellow Londoner; Finn Foxell has featured here before and comes with a fresh round of genre-fusing which will be fully realised in the aforementioned ‘Mamas Boy’; something that has turned from insult to compliment as quickly as this song has gone from start to finish- ‘Easier’ is the track in question.

Very very exciting combination on this track as Nostalgiac releases his latest collaborative project ‘Big Dogs Don’t Bark’ a couple years after ‘57°N’, a real favourite of mine. ‘Deja Vu’ is the fire you want to be hovering by, it’s an atmospheric one with vocals from the rapidly rising but long-time appreciated Ledbyher.

This is one of the ‘could’ve been any of the tracks from the project’ entries. There are some obvious choices but I’m going with ‘Yes, Man’ as Black Josh gets Sniff on more than just a hook for his latest drop ‘YSL Bootleg’ a fucking front to back banger. Think the tone and direction of the bars have been very relatable for me recently.

You might’ve thought mixtapes had become a thing of the past but fear not. We’ve got Sk!nt sharing his mic with ManlikeMally for a gritty episode of Slum Government shit that’ll keep you creasing and spinning again and again. ‘Green Meds’ probably the most repeatable, but you know, it’s a mixtape so there are no tracks per-se.
